Broncos at Risk of Missing Historic Rugby League Clash
The prestigious World Club Challenge in rugby league is on the verge of cancellation for a second consecutive year, as the scheduling conflicts put the 2026 match between the Brisbane Broncos and Hull KR in jeopardy.
The Broncos are eager to participate in this annual contest, which features the champions of the NRL and Super League; however, they are facing a scheduling conflict due to Hull KR's recent Super League grand final victory against Wigan at Old Trafford.
The complication arises from the fact that Hull KR is already set to compete against Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas on March 1. This means that for a World Club Challenge to take place, it would need to occur at least two weeks earlier, necessitating the Broncos' travel to England in mid-February.
Such a scenario raises significant logistical and player welfare concerns.
Several players from the Broncos, including Pat Carrigan, Kotoni Staggs, Gehamat Shibasaki, and Reece Walsh, are currently representing the Kangaroos in the UK, with their tour concluding on November 9.
Maguire acknowledged the complexity of the situation when speaking to the Daily Telegraph.
