Broncos gamble on Cobbo's wing performance negotiation with Roosters

Broncos urged to use risky tactic in Selwyn Cobbo negotiations as Roosters detail emerges

Selwyn Cobbo has been performing exceptionally well for the Brisbane Broncos, scoring four tries in two games and impressing with his performance on the field.

Despite his current contract only running until the 2024 season, rival clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old player.

The Broncos have initiated talks for a new deal but are being advised to not rush into securing a contract for Cobbo.

Journalist Robert Craddock suggests that it might be more beneficial for the team to delay negotiations in order to maintain Cobbo's motivation to perform at his best.

Craddock highlights that if the Broncos offer a new contract too soon, there is a risk of Cobbo's form dropping off.

He believes that by keeping Cobbo as a free agent for a while, the player will continue to play well to maintain his market value.

Craddock wrote in the Courier Mail, "The Broncos may do well to let things bubble along for a while before they secure their man on a multi-year deal.

[...] And while he remains a free agent the pressure is firmly on Cobbo to play well and keep his price up." Despite interest from other clubs, Cobbo's strong connection to the Broncos, particularly through his Cherbourg roots, makes it unlikely that he will leave the team.

By holding off on offering a new contract, the Broncos could potentially benefit from Cobbo's continued stellar performance on the field.

Overall, it is suggested that the Broncos should adopt a risky tactic in negotiating with Cobbo, allowing him to maintain his current form and market value before committing to a new contract.

By playing strategically in the negotiations, the team might secure a more advantageous deal while keeping the player motivated to perform at his best.
