The Brisbane Broncos are set to face a challenging period without key players Reece Walsh, Ben Hunt, and potentially Adam Reynolds over the next few weeks.
In a tough match against the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday night, Walsh was removed from play due to what was classified as Category 1 concussion symptoms.
Initially, he was expected to be sidelined for 11 days, but further assessments have indicated he might be out for as long as six weeks due to a confirmed fractured cheekbone.
A statement from the Broncos confirmed that Walsh will need surgery, resulting in an absence of four to six weeks.
"The Brisbane Broncos can confirm Reece Walsh suffered a fractured cheekbone in Friday night's win over the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium," the club announced.
"He will undergo surgery today, with an expected recovery time of approximately four to six weeks."
In the aftermath of the game, Michael Maguire disclosed that Ezra Mam and Ben Hunt were also struggling with injuries, while Adam Reynolds played only a short stint of 25 minutes before succumbing to a groin issue.
Reliable sources have indicated that Hunt is likely to be out for six to eight weeks due to a high-grade MCL injury.
Furthermore, Reynolds may be looking at an extended break, describing his groin as "tender."
