Hull KR held on to beat the Brisbane Broncos 30-24 to claim their first World Club Challenge in icy conditions at Hull's MKM Stadium.
The Robins did more than survive; they largely dominated the contest and arguably proved themselves the best club side on the planet on the night.
Before kickoff many Australian pundits had dismissed Willie Peters' team, yet his players produced a performance to silence doubters.
Peters now coaches a side that has completed an extraordinary quadruple: Super League major and minor premierships, the Challenge Cup and the World Club Challenge.
Each team crossed for five tries, but Brisbane's captain Adam Reynolds made only two successful conversions from five attempts and his late misses were decisive.
The margin stretched to 30-4 by the 57th minute after Peta Hiku finished the move following a Tyrone May grubber.
Famous for three comeback wins in last season's finals that secured their NRL title, the Broncos began mounting a late revival.
The Robins withstood sustained pressure in the final stages to deny a repeat of those dramatic turnarounds.
"It was the longest 20-odd minutes of my life," a delighted Peters said.
His players were praised for their defence, discipline and refusal to yield under intense late onslaughts.
The result will be remembered as a landmark triumph for Hull KR and a fitting reward for a season of consistent excellence.
"I am just really happy with the way they scrambled, fought and dug in to win.
