Broncos Celebrate Unexpected Player Comeback

Broncos Star Set for Surprise Return Following Surgery

The Brisbane Broncos are poised to see the unexpected return of Deine Mariner after a serious medical issue related to compartment syndrome in his thigh.

In May, Mariner underwent five surgical procedures that were crucial for saving his limb, leaving him with the expectation of missing most of the season.

However, Broncos coach Michael Maguire has reported that Mariner is on track for a comeback just eight weeks post-surgery, according to the Courier Mail.

"We get quite a few of them back," Maguire noted.

"Billy, Deine and Patty are all chances to return."

"Credit to the medical staff with 'Deino'. They've looked after him really well, as they always do."

"He'll be able to come back when the time is right, which I think should be next week."

The Broncos are currently facing a tough challenge to maintain their position among the Top 8, needing to secure victories in nearly all of their remaining matches to ensure participation in September.

In a difficult title defense season, they have been hit hard by injuries, pushing their squad depth to the limit, which has resulted in a record of five wins and ten losses in 2026.
