Brisbane's captain Adam Reynolds will miss the upcoming match against North Queensland due to injury, paving the way for Tom Duffy to step in as halfback.
Duffy is set to make his club debut for the Broncos at Lang Park, facing off against his former team, the Cowboys.
Reynolds was absent from the captain's run on Thursday, where he attempted to assess his injured groin with sprints and lateral movements; however, he ultimately deemed himself unfit to play.
"Reyno did all the running. He was OK with that, but he just felt the kicking part was something that wasn't where it needed to be," shared Broncos coach Michael Maguire.
"So we're fortunate to have Tommy ready to go."
At training, Duffy assumed control as halfback, working closely with five-eighth Ezra Mam.
The young player, who will also handle goal-kicking duties in Reynolds' absence, has been closely learning from both Reynolds and fellow injured playmaker Ben Hunt.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing Tommy get his opportunity. He's fitted in really well. He came in on day one, ripped into the pre-season and he's earning everything he's doing," expressed Maguire.
"He's really good at being able to organise a team and he's got a great kicking game."
