Selwyn Cobbo, a prominent player from the Broncos, has signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins, intensifying the rivalry between the NRL newcomers and their crosstown rivals.
Reports from au.news.yahoo.com indicate that Cobbo's move comes after interest from the Dragons and Cowboys, following his decline in favor at the Broncos.
At just 23, Cobbo was previously a contender for the Maroons squad but currently finds himself playing in reserve grade.
The Broncos recently secured new talent with Grant Anderson and extended contracts for key outside backs like Kotoni Staggs and Josiah Karapani, leaving them unable to meet Cobbo's financial demands.
Joining the Dolphins means Cobbo will be part of a talent-rich backline that's performing well under new coach Kristian Woolf.
Despite his aspirations to remain with the Broncos, Cobbo signed with the Dolphins, which could position him as a significant player when the Perth Bears enter the NRL in 2027.
"The Dolphins have always said we are about continuing to build a roster that will make us one of the top teams in the NRL," remarked Dolphins CEO Terry Reader, emphasizing the club's ambitions for the future.
