Broncos Bench Star; Storm Face Setback

Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters..

The Broncos have made a significant statement ahead of the finals by standing down star centre Gehamat Shibasaki for their important match against the Storm. The Storm, in contrast, are bolstered by the return of reigning Dally M Medal winner Jahrome Hughes from injury.

Shibasaki has been a remarkable story this season, finally making a name for himself in the NRL. With 15 tries, he has led Brisbane's scoring efforts and even earned his Origin debut in the series decider. However, he has been dropped to the reserves for Thursday's critical game at home due to a breach of team standards that the club has handled internally.

In Shibasaki's absence, Deine Mariner will shift to the left centre position, while Jesse Arthars will return to the wing. The Broncos must secure a win to maintain their chances for a top-four finish and a second chance in the finals.

The challenge ahead is formidable, as they face a Storm team that is recovering from last week's heavy defeat to the Roosters. The premiership favorites are set to welcome back star playmaker Jahrome Hughes, who hasn't played since round 21. In addition to Hughes, the Storm will see the return of several other key players, including Xavier Coates, Josh King, and Eli Katoa, who were rested, while Stefano Utoikamanu is earning a week off.

Despite these reinforcements, the Storm are also facing injury issues, with back-rower Shawn Blore suffering a fractured larynx just before the finals.
