The Brisbane Broncos received a timely boost ahead of the NRL finals as halfback Adam Reynolds addressed concerns related to his hamstring injury, which had raised alarm during training. Reynolds was named in the extended squad for the upcoming match against North Queensland and is expected to travel with the team to Townsville.
Reynolds has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during the Broncos' loss to the Melbourne Storm in round 23. Unfortunately, the team confirmed that he re-injured the same hamstring at Thursday's training session, with images showing him in visible pain.
The 35-year-old veteran is regarded as a crucial piece of the Broncos' strategy, and there are worries over how their performance might be impacted in the NRL finals without Reynolds. While some, like Corey Parker, consider Reece Walsh to be the key player, many believe that having Reynolds in the No. 7 jersey is essential for their success.
Despite initial fears that Reynolds could be sidelined for an extended period, he has attempted to alleviate worries about a long-term injury. He stated that the team was merely exercising caution during training and anticipated being available for the finals.
"It's not as serious as everyone's talking about. It was a bit of tightness at training the other day; I was doing everything with the team, and unfortunately, it tightened up," Reynolds shared on Triple M Radio. "I got off the field pretty quick to make sure I didn't get any further damage to it. I'm still on schedule and should be back for the finals."
Although some uncertainty remains regarding the risk of re-injury to his hamstring, Reynolds expressed optimism about his return. "The scan is routine, that was always planned. It was just that I tightened up during training that it was reported on," he added.
"It was always the plan to play the first week of finals. I would like to have been back the week prior but not to be. I tend to like to get out and train pretty early, as early as I can. It's my fault for pushing it a bit too much to get back. I'm eager to get back out there with the team; I feel like we're in a good spot at the moment and I want to contribute. It's tough watching from the sidelines, but I have to recognise the boys are doing a great job."
