Brisbane's Brigginshaw calls for separate NRLW chief executive

Roosters winger Jayme Fressard will have a late fitness assessment after injuring her shoulder against Canberra last week.

Coach John Strange called her chances "50-50", with a decision due after Saturday's captain's run.

"A little niggle, a few fitness tests to still get through but hopefully looking good," Strange said.

Fressard said: "I just really want to be present this week and do everything that I need to do to be the best athlete as possible."

At her final press conference before retirement, Brisbane captain Ali Brigginshaw called for a dedicated chief executive for the NRLW.

The NRL's chief executive currently oversees the women's game, while the AFLW has its own leadership, headed by Laura Kane.

Asked what she would do as NRL executive chairman Peter V'landys, Brigginshaw joked: "If there's someone in charge of the (women's) game, maybe someone that plays the game, not me, maybe Millie," referring to retiring Roosters player Millie Elliott.

"We can go in a different direction, we can do what we want to do and what's best for the (NRLW) players and the staff."

Brigginshaw is seeking a second straight premiership with Brisbane before retiring. Broncos coach Scott Prince said he hoped an award would be named after her.

Roosters captain Isabelle Kelly described Brigginshaw as a longtime pioneer of the game and praised her leadership.
