Brisbane face Willison contract déjà vu

Payne Haas is set to join South Sydney in 2027 on a three-year deal, after Brisbane failed to secure him before November 1 last year.

The Broncos had planned to assess his market value and return to negotiations in early 2026, but Haas signed with the Rabbitohs.

Now Xavier Willison, viewed as a long-term replacement for Haas, is considering rival offers despite Brisbane offering him a multi-year contract worth up to $1 million per season.

The 24-year-old is off-contract at the end of 2027 and has changed management, joining Ahmad Merhi, who also represents Haas.

Coach Michael Maguire remains confident the club will reach an agreement.

"Yes, those things (a new contract) will get sorted out," Maguire said.

He praised Willison's development and said, "I've got a very high regard for Xavier and the way he's developing."
