Brisbane Coach Evaluates Player Performance

‘Having a look’: Maguire puts Broncos players on notice as big question hangs over defending premiers

Michael Maguire has issued a caution to the Brisbane Broncos' roster, stating he will be "having a look at each player in the squad" following their disappointing 40-32 defeat to Parramatta on Thursday night.

Initially, the Broncos appeared to be in control, leading 20-6 in the first half. However, they conceded three quick tries within a five-minute span, which left them trailing by halftime. Despite several chances, they couldn't capitalize in the second half.

Although it's only round two and there's no need for urgent concern, Brisbane's defense has raised eyebrows, as they have allowed a staggering 66 points in the first two games, marking the highest in history for a defending champion.

This situation will prompt the Broncos to face difficult discussions during training this week. Coach Maguire has made it clear that no player's position is guaranteed ahead of the upcoming grand final rematch with Melbourne next Friday.

At the post-match press conference, Maguire was questioned about whether he would "back the boys in" or if certain players would "be on notice." Known for his high expectations and willingness to make significant decisions, his reply was revealing.

"I'll have a look at the performance," he stated.
