Brisbane Broncos hooker Cory Paix is set to re-sign with the club, despite former coach Kevin Walters telling him he was free to leave.
Paix has impressed new coach Michael Maguire and won the starting No.9 position for the 2025 season.
Despite a loss to Canberra, Paix scored a try in the season opener against the Roosters.
His manager, Paul Hogan, confirmed that Paix's preference is to stay with the Broncos, despite interest from other clubs.
Hogan stated, "He's had interest from a number of clubs, including teams in Super League, but he would ideally love to stay on at the Broncos." Paix, who was sidelined in reserve grade last year under Walters, has regained his place in the first grade under Maguire's leadership.
Hogan noted that Paix never lost faith in his abilities, despite being frozen out by Walters, and continued to work hard.
The decision to re-sign with the Broncos represents a significant turnaround for the 25-year-old, who was overlooked in favor of other players last season.
Maguire has given Paix a fresh start and the opportunity to thrive in the team, similar to teammate Kobe Hetherington.
Paix will have the chance to showcase his skills in the upcoming game against the Cowboys, aiming to bounce back from a disappointing performance against Canberra.
This extension would solidify Paix's future with the Broncos, a team where he feels settled both on and off the field.
Despite interest from other clubs, Paix's loyalty lies with Brisbane as he looks to continue his development and contribute to the team's success.
Keeping Paix at the club signals a positive shift in his career trajectory and affirms his commitment to the Broncos.
