EXCLUSIVE: Inside the rise of NSW's newest Blue
Blayke Brailey's expression said it all.
Dripping wet and filled with exhilaration, the Sharks co-captain stood in the winning NSW sheds on Wednesday night, embodying the essence of a player fulfilling a dream he had tirelessly pursued.
The 27-year-old finally made his long-anticipated State of Origin debut in the Blues' series-opening victory, stepping onto the field 10 minutes into the second half as coach Laurie Daley implemented his dual-hooker strategy.
In spite of the rain, the intensity, and the pressures inherent in Origin football, Brailey provided precisely what was needed: stability, energy, and confidence.
"It is still a very pinch-me moment."
For those familiar with Brailey's journey, this selection seemed well-earned.
The steadfast dummy-half has gradually emerged as one of the NRL's most reliable players since his debut with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2019, showcasing a remarkable achievement with a 139-game streak before entering the Origin camp.
Despite some doubts regarding his opportunity, Brailey emphasized that those close to him consistently maintained their faith.
"I think there have been a lot of people on the journey with me, where I have been so close," he remarked.
