In a stunning development, Dragons assistant coach Dean Young has emerged as a dark horse contender in the race to become the next head coach of the Parramatta Eels.
The competition, which initially seemed to be a two-horse race between Josh Hannay and Jason Ryles, has now seen Young throw his hat in the ring after impressing in the interview process.
Despite the strong competition from Hannay and Ryles, Young, a premiership winner with the St George Illawarra Dragons, is still very much in the running for the coveted position.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Young has not been counted out just yet.
Adding to the intrigue is the backing Young has received from legendary coach Wayne Bennett.
While Bennett ultimately turned down the Eels to return to the Rabbitohs, the esteemed coach believes that Young is more than capable of taking on the challenge.
With his impressive credentials and glowing recommendation from Bennett, Young may just be the dark horse candidate to watch in the Eels' coach hunt.
Stay tuned as the competition heats up and the final decision draws near.
