Blues breakthrough: Origin triumph in style

The NSW Blues have achieved their first Women's State of Origin series victory, besting the QLD Maroons with an impressive 26-6 win, highlighted by a double from Olivia Kernick.

This victory marks Queensland's first loss in New South Wales since 2019, as the Blues showcased their dominance, particularly under the guidance of first-year head coach John Strange, despite challenging wet conditions.

The match commenced with controversy when 'The Bunker' intervened, overturning referee Belinda Sharpe's initial decision and awarding a try to Tamika Upton after it was deemed that Kernick had knocked the ball on instead of grounding it.

Instead of letting this setback deter them, the Blues harnessed the momentum and swiftly controlled the game.

They capitalized on Queensland's simple handling errors, which prevented the Maroons from taking advantage of their chances.

Following the contentious opening, the Blues quickly asserted their dominance, scoring two consecutive tries through Simaima Taufa and Kernick before halftime.

The Blues' forwards, particularly Kernick-who was recognized as the reigning Dally M medallist-were pivotal in propelling the team to their significant victory over their longstanding rivals.
