In a disappointing match for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, they suffered a 28-18 loss to the Penrith Panthers in round 24 of the NSW Cup.
Despite scoring three late tries, it wasn't enough to save them from defeat.
The game was played at the Brothers Rugby League Club ground in Penrith, which was a home game for Blacktown.
At halftime, they were trailing 12-0, and Penrith quickly extended their lead in the second half.
However, the Sea Eagles mounted a late comeback, but it fell short.
As a result of this loss, Blacktown Workers dropped to fifth place in the standings, with only two rounds remaining.
The top five teams in the competition will qualify for the finals.
Currently, Blacktown Workers are tied on 28 points with the fourth-placed Penrith and the sixth-placed Rabbitohs.
Depending on the outcomes of the weekend matches, there is a possibility that Blacktown Workers could fall out of the top five.
To finish off the regular season, the Sea Eagles will face tough away games against the third-placed Warriors and the second-placed Bulldogs.
The Panthers took an early lead in the match, with prop Eddie Blacker scoring a try next to the posts in the 13th minute, giving them a 6-0 advantage.
