Bennett Unhappy with Disruptive Celebrations

NRL coach sitting during a press conference, not looking pleased.

Wayne Bennett expressed frustration after witnessing fans invade the field following a significant achievement by Alex Johnston, calling the interruption "pretty disruptive."

The South Sydney winger, Johnston, made history by scoring the 213th try of his NRL career during a 26-18 defeat to the Sydney Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium.

At 31 years old, he surpassed the previous record of 212 tries set by Ken Irvine back in 1973-a time when Bennett himself was still an active player at the age of 76.

Prior to the match, Bennett had urged fans to refrain from invading the pitch if Johnston achieved the milestone of two tries against the Roosters.

However, his disdain was evident as he observed the exuberant celebration that disrupted the match for approximately 15 minutes in the second half while fans returned to their seats.

"Pretty disruptive," Bennett remarked after the game.

"We're out there trying to win a game of football. We're all out there trying the hearts out and all of a sudden it stops and takes all the momentum."

Bennett was not inclined to reflect on the match during his post-game press conference.

"I've said a fair bit about it and I hate repeating myself, so let's move on," he concluded.
