According to Queensland Rugby League boss Ben Ikin, negotiations to extend the contract of Billy Slater as Maroons coach are at a crucial stage.
Ikin expressed his confidence that Slater will remain in the role, stating that he is "more confident than not" about the outcome.
Slater, who is currently off contract, had previously expressed uncertainty about continuing as Queensland coach, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
However, Ikin revealed that the negotiations are progressing well and he believes Slater will ultimately re-sign.
When asked about keeping Slater on board, Ikin said, "I am more confident than I am not." He acknowledged that there are many factors to consider, including the schedule for next year and budget constraints.
Ikin also praised the patience of both Slater and women's coach Tahnee Norris, stating that they have been in constant communication throughout the negotiation process.
