Billy Slater might find himself in the position of having to make a tough decision and drop a Queensland Maroons star as Ben Hunt has expressed his desire to continue playing State of Origin in 2025.
The futures of Maroons veterans Cherry-Evans and Hunt were uncertain last year, with both considering stepping away from representative footy to focus on their club commitments.
However, Cherry-Evans confirmed his commitment to Origin earlier this month, and now Hunt has followed suit.
"I'd love to play Origin this year," Hunt told News Corp on Friday.
"If I get the opportunity, us old fellas will keep soldiering on.
I love playing for Queensland and whenever I get the opportunity, it's going to be hard to turn down.
I've never taken the Queensland jumper for granted, so if I'm fit and playing good footy for the Broncos this year and Billy wants me in there, I will be there."
The decision of whether or not Slater will include him in the squad remains to be seen.
The Maroons coach is known for his loyalty, but he is not afraid to make tough decisions for the benefit of the state.
With Hunt, Cherry-Evans, Cameron Munster, and Tom Dearden vying for positions, there seems to be a selection dilemma.
Cherry-Evans and Dearden formed the halves combination in 2024, with Hunt playing a utility role off the bench and providing relief for Harry Grant at hooker.
Despite missing the 2024 Origin series due to injury, Munster is considered one of the top five-eighths in the game and will likely reclaim his spot in the team if fit in 2025.
Dearden showcased his skills at No.6 for the Kangaroos in the Pacific Championships, which will make it challenging for Slater to overlook him.
