Bears Roar into NRL: Perth's 2027 Comeback

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

The NRL has officially confirmed the addition of a Perth-based Bears team to the competition in 2027, following extensive discussions between the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) and the Western Australian government.

ARLC Chairman Peter V'landys highlighted the significance of this move, stating that "Rugby League is the biggest sport in Australia and the Pacific, so a team in the economic powerhouse of Western Australia is a natural fit.

Why should West Australian fans miss out on the greatest game [of] all?"

In recent years, the NRL has aimed to increase its presence in Western Australia, organizing both NRL and State of Origin matches in the region.

V'landys noted the strong attendance at these games, which has encouraged the league to pursue expansion into Perth.

He remarked, "Western Australians love sport and now they have the opportunity to get behind a Perth-based Rugby League Club that will capture the hearts and minds of fans across the country."
