Bears Raid: Perth Bears Offer Sorensen Two-Year Deal

The Perth Bears have intensified efforts to recruit Penrith Panthers forward Scott Sorensen with a two-year contract offer.

Sorensen, a premiership winner, has long been tipped to depart Penrith by the end of 2026.

Versatile across the middle and the edge, he had been linked to a finish in England's Super League.

However, News Corp reports the Bears have instead presented him with an NRL lifeline closer to home.

The proposed agreement would keep the New Zealand international at the club for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

That arrangement could represent his final playing years before he contemplates retirement from top-level rugby.

Now aged 32, Sorensen is believed to be deep into discussions with Perth and may decide within days.

The Bears' pursuit follows their earlier capture of prop Liam Henry for the foundation squad.

Financial constraints at Penrith are expected to push Sorensen out despite his influential role since 2021.

Perth currently lists 13 players for their inaugural campaigns but want greater bulk and experience in the forwards.

Potential additions alongside Henry include Sorensen and Josh Curran, bolstering a pack also featuring youngsters.

Emerging talents such as Luke Smith and Emarly Bitungane are among the names providing further depth.
