Mal Meninga, the new coach of the Perth Bears, is eager to strengthen his team's roster, particularly expressing interest in Wests Tigers captain Apisai Koroisau.
After Koroisau indicated he would be "definitely open" to joining the NRL's new franchise, Meninga wasted no time in pursuing the opportunity.
According to reports from zerotackle.com, Koroisau, who previously played for the North Sydney Bears, is under contract until the end of 2026 and will be able to negotiate with other teams starting November 1.
In a recent interview with Channel Nine, Koroisau clarified his position, stating, "To be fair I've never seriously thought about it, mainly because I'd love to just finish off here at the Tigers and I'm in no rush to be going anywhere or sign any contracts." Despite this, his acknowledgment of interest caught Meninga's attention, who remarked on Koroisau's history with the original Bears franchise, saying, "He did play for North Sydney Bears, you know."
As the Perth Bears prepare for their entry into the league, Meninga appears keen to explore potential signings that could benefit the team's development and appeal to fans.
