Cooper Bai has revealed that staying with the Gold Coast Titans, instead of joining the Storm, was the hardest choice of his career.
The 19-year-old forward, who contributed to the Titans' impressive 52-10 victory over Parramatta last Sunday, reflected on the support he received in Papua New Guinea last year, noting that he is a potential target for the PNG Chiefs.
Having previously turned down an opportunity to play for the Storm - a team where his father, Marcus, a legend of the Kumuls, thrived - Bai understands what it's like to be in the spotlight.
His father expressed disappointment regarding Cooper's decision to forgo the opportunity to develop under renowned coach Craig Bellamy.
Cooper admitted that he faced a dilemma about leaving the Gold Coast, but ultimately chose to extend his commitment to the Titans through 2027.
"It definitely was the toughest decision of my life I've ever had to make," Bai said.
"I've never had to make any decisions like that before, to pick between two clubs like that."
Growing up on the Gold Coast, he emphasized his deep connections to the area.
"To be honest, it was the toughest decision I think I've had to make in my life, being so young and having grown up here ... having all my family and friends around this area and on the Gold Coast."
