Dolphins outside back Jake Averillo may face competition to remain in Kristian Woolf's top 17 for the 2026 season, but rumors about an imminent club departure are unfamiliar to him.
This sentiment emerged during the club's training camp, where Averillo was asked directly about his future.
As he is set to be off-contract at the conclusion of the 2026 season, the versatile player, who has settled into a center role for the Redcliffe-based team, has been associated with potential moves to both the St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL and the St Helens Saints in the English Super League over recent months.
However, these connections were a surprise to Averillo, who informed The Sydney Morning Herald that discussions regarding a contract extension with the Dolphins are currently in progress.
"That was definitely news to me, moving to England," Averillo expressed to the publication.
"My manager said we've started [extension talks], so we'll just see how it goes."
"I've missed a lot of training, so I'm just trying to focus on getting back to training and letting my management take care of all that stuff."
