Australia face Moses injury setback

Strange called into Kangaroos squad as Moses ruled out

Canberra Raiders five-eighth Ethan Strange is set to join the 23-man Kangaroos squad in Brisbane, replacing Mitchell Moses for the rest of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

Moses suffered a lower leg injury during Australia's 24-22 tournament-opening win over New Zealand at Allianz Stadium on Thursday.

He played on for several minutes before leaving less than two minutes into the second half, unable to return.

An MRI scan in Sydney the following day diagnosed a high-grade muscle tear, ruling him out of the remainder of the tournament.

Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters said Moses was disappointed and praised his contribution to preparations, saying, "Mitch made a wonderful contribution" during the Sydney camp.

Walters also said Moses had bravely tried to continue playing and wished him well with his recovery.
