'Deal sealed': Aussie taxpayers to splash $600m for PNG to join NRL

In a move that has the sporting world buzzing, reports have surfaced that the NRL is set to venture into uncharted territory with the backing of Australian taxpayers.

According to news.com.au, a hefty $600m investment is on the cards as the NRL looks to set sail into international waters.

The long-standing dream of introducing an 18th team into the competition is finally becoming a reality, with Papua New Guinea emerging as the victorious recipients of a coveted new license.

In true sporting fashion, 2GB's Ben Fordham delivered the news on Wednesday morning, confirming that the ink was dry on the deal and that the taxpayers would foot the bill.
