Melbourne Storm front-rower Nelson Asofa-Solomona is reportedly seeking a new team after informing his teammates of his intention to leave the club. This decision comes after a challenging period for the player, who has faced consecutive suspensions that kept him away from the NRL Grand Finals.
Missing the 2025 NRL Grand Final due to suspension has added to the uncertainty surrounding Asofa-Solomona's future, particularly as he has struggled to justify his $850,000 annual salary. Over the past couple of seasons, his performance has not been at its peak, with the front-rower participating in only 12 matches this year. His on-field issues have even led to appearances in reserve grade, raising concerns about his reliability.
Despite being under contract for another two seasons with a mutual option extending to 2028, News Corp reports that Asofa-Solomona "informed teammates on Wednesday of his plans" to leave Melbourne. This sentiment underscores the significant changes taking place in his career.
The New Zealand international's move toward departing the club follows unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a transfer to the New Zealand Warriors, which was facilitated through a third-party contact but ultimately declined by the club.
"I don't think Nelson will be at Melbourne next year," noted News Corp's Brent Read on NRL 360.
