Asofa-Solomona Discusses Storm Exit for Boxing

Former Melbourne Storm player Nelson Asofa-Solomona has shared insights about his recent exit from the NRL as he transitions into a boxing career.

He indicated that his departure was anticipated, describing the split with the Storm as "a mutual agreement" after losing favor with coach Craig Bellamy.

In the 2025 season, Asofa-Solomona participated in only 12 matches and missed the final two grand finals due to suspension. His contract was terminated on October 9, allowing him to leave a deal worth over $800,000 annually.

"I could see it coming," he told foxsports.com.au.

"It was a mutual agreement and I just think it was time… it was time."

The 201cm athlete, who has played 203 games over the past ten years and secured premiership titles in 2017 and 2020, acknowledged that he never had a direct discussion with Bellamy regarding his future.

"We honestly didn't have a conversation," Asofa-Solomona said.
