Ashes Series Officiating Rules Clarified

As the Ashes series approaches, fans are eager to learn how the games will be officiated, especially with the notable differences between the NRL and Super League rules.

The first test will be refereed by English referee Liam Moore, while Grant Atkins, known for officiating the NRL Grand Final, will oversee the second test.

In discussions with the Rugby Football League, the Kangaroos have received clarity on the specific rules that will be enforced during the series.

One key difference involves ruck clearing. In the NRL, the defender must "immediately" release a tackled player, as stated in the NRL Laws and Interpretations. This is contrasted by the Super League, where the clearing of the ruck is more forgiving-a leniency that will carry into the Ashes series.

Another important discrepancy lies in the offside rule. In the NRL, defenders are considered onside if at least one foot is in line with the referee. Conversely, the Super League demands that both feet must be behind the referee, which could present challenges for the Kangaroos as they make adjustments to comply with this rule.
