Mal Meninga is broadening the selection process for the Kangaroos ahead of the upcoming Ashes tour, emphasizing that State of Origin performances will significantly influence the choices for the team.

With the first three-Test series against Great Britain set to commence in Liverpool, Leeds, and Wembley, Meninga is closely monitoring new Origin debutants.

One emerging talent is Queensland rookie Robert Toia, who has only 10 NRL matches under his belt but will debut in the centres.

Meninga expressed uncertainty about Toia's eligibility but praised him as "a player of the future" and someone the Kangaroos would be keen to have in their lineup.

Additionally, players like Trent Loiero from Queensland and Max King from New South Wales are also under consideration, as both are expected to participate in Wednesday's Origin opener and have shown strong recent performances at their clubs.
