ARLC scores a try with new PNG policy

NRL clubs to be allowed to sign two PNG pathway players outside of cap ahead of team's 2028 entry

The ARLC has introduced a new policy allowing NRL clubs to sign two PNG pathway players outside of the salary cap to develop talent in Papua New Guinea ahead of its NRL entry in 2028.

The players must have participated in junior rugby league in PNG.

Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf supports the initiative, noting how exposure to high-performance environments can benefit PNG players.

ARLC chairman Peter V'landys stated that the policy aims to encourage clubs to invest in emerging talent from PNG, providing clearer pathways for players looking to break into the NRL.

V'landys highlighted the strong performance of the PNG schoolboys team as evidence of the talent emerging from the region.
