Kezie Apps, a stalwart for the NSW Blues, is set to extend her rugby league career until the age of 38 after recently signing a four-year contract extension with Wests Tigers.

This decision comes as she reflects on her previous uncertainty about her future in the game just a few years ago.

Having turned 34 in February, Apps will surpass the retirement ages of NRL legends Cameron Smith and Cliff Lyons, both of whom retired at 37.

Apps' motivation to continue playing into her late 30s stems from her fitness, demonstrated by her strong performance in the NSW team's recent 32-12 victory over Queensland.

After co-captaining the Australian team alongside Ali Brigginshaw during last year's Pacific Championships and the March 1 Vegas Test against England, Apps has stepped down from her captaincy role under new coach John Strange.

Reflecting on her career, Apps previously faced challenges regarding the uncertainty surrounding NRLW contracts, which made it challenging for players to plan their futures outside of rugby league, stating, "We never had that security." Despite these concerns, her commitment to the sport remains strong as she prepares for her final season in 2029.
