In recent years, the NRL has witnessed numerous long-term contracts, some extending over a decade.
This trend has sparked discussions among fans and analysts about whether such lengthy agreements truly benefit the clubs, particularly when they come with exit clauses and player options.
Recently, Dylan Brown signed a substantial 10-year, $14 million contract with the Newcastle Knights, adding to the roster of these extensive deals.
Former NRL player and current agent Braith Anasta shared his thoughts on SEN regarding the possibility of the NRL adopting the NBA's contract model, which limits players to a maximum of five years per contract.
"I like the idea," Anasta admitted. "Very rarely are these long deals successful; rarely is it a happy relationship the whole time."
Another example is Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, who signed a decade-long contract with the Gold Coast Titans. After only a couple of seasons, he is now poised to enter the open market due to an exit clause in his agreement that was previously undisclosed.
