The Queanbeyan Blues local footy club recently celebrated the inauguration of a new $600,000 female change room, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by numerous politicians.

This government-funded initiative aimed to encourage greater participation of women and girls in rugby league in the New South Wales town.

However, just weeks prior, the club's women's team had disbanded due to a lack of players.

Similarly, the rival Queanbeyan Kangaroos also faced the same challenge, witnessing the collapse of their women's team.

"I was actually pretty gutted," said Roos player Chenice Jordan.

"We really did want to play."

Fellow player Kate Warren had anticipated the difficulties, noting that the already limited roster was further impacted by injuries.

Despite these challenges, the dissolution of the team early in the season was a "tough pill to swallow."
