Alex Johnston is on the verge of breaking Ken Irvine's long-standing try-scoring record, as he recently moved to 206 tries after scoring four against the Storm.
Only six tries shy of Irvine's record, Johnston's performance has reignited conversations about the possibility of him surpassing it.
The 30-year-old Souths winger has excelled, notably achieving a second-half hat-trick in a golden point loss to Melbourne, and has managed to score nine tries in his last four matches against top-four teams.
With an impressive 11 tries in just seven games this season, Johnston is set to challenge the record as early as next month.
Reflecting on his achievement, he stated, "If you told me a few weeks ago, I would have told you I was still a fair bit away.
But I've scored a few tries in the past few games and I'm getting close now.
I'll try my best to get it this year."
