Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy praises Ryan Papenhuyzen for his "resilience" as he approaches his 100th NRL appearance.
Papenhuyzen is set to play against Canberra at Suncorp Stadium during the final game of Magic Round.
This milestone is particularly significant given Papenhuyzen's challenging journey with injuries, including concussions, a hamstring injury, a fractured kneecap, and a broken ankle, leading to extended periods on the sidelines.
Bellamy expressed his initial doubts about whether the 26-year-old fullback would reach this point due to the toll these injuries have taken on both Papenhuyzen's physical and mental health.
Reflecting on Papenhuyzen's struggles, Bellamy remarked, "He's had a lot of injuries along the way, and to get to that 100th (game), it's been a really big effort from him." He noted moments during Papenhuyzen's recovery when it seemed uncertain whether he could continue, highlighting the mental challenges alongside the physical ones.
Ultimately, Bellamy commended Papenhuyzen's character, stating, "He's just such a resilient guy."
