Mal Meninga has hinted at potential Kangaroos selection changes after admitting to a 'clunky' performance in their recent Tonga Test victory.

Despite a mistake-filled showing at Suncorp Stadium, the Aussies managed to secure a win over Tonga, with NRL legend Darren Lockyer labeling their performance as "clunky."

Meninga acknowledged that there are areas that need improvement but hinted that he may stick with the same lineup for the upcoming match against New Zealand.

The Kangaroos began their campaign with a win over Tonga, but their new halves combination of Mitchell Moses and Tom Dearden struggled to find synergy with fullback Dylan Edwards and hooker Harry Grant.

Moses, in particular, failed to live up to his State of Origin form, with errors plaguing the team's performance.

Despite a disrupted preparation due to the birth of his second child, Meninga highlighted the short training camp as the main reason for their lack of cohesion on the field.

Looking ahead to the match against New Zealand, Meninga emphasized the team's focus on improving their attacking play after a strong defensive showing against Tonga.

With a longer preparation period leading into the next game, the Kangaroos will be aiming to rectify their errors and put on a more polished performance in Christchurch.
