Mal Meninga, the mastermind behind the Kangaroos squad, appears to be leaving the fiery talent of Latrell Mitchell out of the upcoming Pacific Championships.

The decision comes amidst a tumultuous period for Mitchell, with the leaked photo scandal casting a shadow over his chances of donning the green and gold jersey once more.

Despite nursing a foot injury that has kept him off the field for weeks, Mitchell has been spotted out of his moon boot and back in training.

However, with a looming NRL ban and hefty fine on the horizon due to the scandal, his chances of making the cut for the Kangaroos seem slim.

The last time Mitchell wore the Australian jersey was during the 2022 World Cup final, where he left his mark with two dazzling tries against Samoa.

But Meninga, known for his strategic prowess and keen eye for talent, seems to be looking elsewhere for the upcoming Tests against Tonga and New Zealand.

With a plethora of options at his disposal, Meninga is focusing on players who have excelled in State of Origin battles and stood out in the pressure cooker of finals football.

As he contemplates his squad selection, the legendary coach hinted at the importance of a player's mindset and form leading up to the international clashes.

"As it stands, we're uncertain about Latrell's readiness.

It's crucial for him to not only be physically fit but also mentally prepared to represent his country," Meninga remarked, referring to Mitchell's standout performance for the Blues in game two before his injury setback.

In a sport where loyalty can be as fleeting as a try-saving tackle, Meninga's decision may come as a tough blow to Mitchell.

But in the ever-evolving landscape of Rugby League, the Kangaroos must assemble a squad that embodies resilience, skill, and unwavering determination to conquer their rivals on the international stage.
