Knights Offer Three-Year Deal to Trey Mooney

EXCLUSIVE: The Newcastle Knights are making a significant move for Canberra Raiders forward Trey Mooney by offering him a three-year contract.

After receiving permission from the Raiders to explore options, sources close to the situation informed Zero Tackle that the Knights have presented a contract set to commence in 2026, following Mooney's recent tour of their facilities.

The contract is expected to secure Mooney an annual salary ranging from $500,000 to $600,000.

Mooney, who has represented the under-19 NSW Blues and was part of the Australian Schoolboys team, recently signed a long-term deal with the Raiders extending through 2027. However, at 23, he is seeking more playing time, having primarily served as the 18th or 19th man for the Raiders, only stepping in during injuries or suspensions.

He is projected to enter the lineup for veteran front-rower Josh Papalii in 2026, although the Raiders had previously blocked a transfer to the Knights before the June 30 deadline.
