Clifford Dismisses Contract Departure Rumors

LeagueNews.co | Cooper McEnroe

After recently extending his contract, North Queensland Cowboys halfback Jake Clifford has assured fans that he has no plans to leave the club. He has committed to the Cowboys until 2026, but in the unpredictable world of the NRL, contracts can often feel uncertain.

Clifford has found himself at the center of speculation regarding a potential transfer to the Canberra Raiders. The Raiders are reportedly seeking an experienced halfback to join their young duo of Ethan Sanders and Ethan Strange next season, especially with Jamal Fogarty moving to the Manly Sea Eagles to fill the spot vacated by Daly Cherry-Evans.

Following the Cowboys' impressive victory over the Newcastle Knights, Clifford appeared on Fox Sports' The Matty Johns Show. During the show, former player and panelist Brian Fletcher inquired about any communication Clifford might have had with Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.

Fletcher asked, "Mate, your name has been bandied around about going down to Canberra. Have you been in touch with the great Ricky Stuart yet?"
