The Brisbane Broncos have announced that Billy Walters has incurred damage to his ACL during the thrilling match against the Canberra Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
In an intense contest that stretched for 94 minutes, Walters' halves partner, Ben Hunt, managed to secure a victory with a winning field goal, ensuring a critical week off for the team. Walters, who has been filling in as five-eighth due to ongoing injuries within the Brisbane roster, played throughout the entire match.
Although the Broncos have not provided a specific timeline for Walters' recovery, reports from News Corp indicate that his injury is not a complete rupture; nevertheless, it appears his season is concluded.
Fortunately for the Broncos, they have a straightforward solution for their final two matches: Adam Reynolds is expected to be cleared to return from a hamstring injury.
Reynolds is likely to step back into the halfback position, with Ezra Mam also potentially returning to play five-eighth. Should Mam return, Ben Hunt would shift to the number nine spot, sending Cory Paix to the bench and Tyson Smoothy out of the lineup.
In the event that Mam does not return, Hunt will continue in the five-eighth role alongside Reynolds, which mirrors the starting combination at the beginning of the season when Mam was serving a suspension.
