'They're interesting stats': Blues ready for lopsided penalty counts in enemy territory as they set out to make their own mark on history
The Blues are gearing up to take on not just the Queensland Maroons, but also the daunting history of lopsided penalty counts in deciders played in the Sunshine State.
With only nine penalty counts going their way out of 60 matches played in Queensland, NSW knows they have a tough battle ahead of them.
Coach Michael Maguire is well aware of the "interesting stats" and has been working behind the scenes to ensure his team gets a fair go at Suncorp Stadium.
With referee Ashley Klein set to officiate, Maguire is prepared for a tough challenge with the home crowd likely to influence the penalty decisions.
"I've taken care of everything behind the scenes to address that.
I understand what the team needs to do in terms of adapting to the way the game will be officiated," Maguire stated confidently.
"The numbers don't lie, but we have to focus on what we can control.
They're certainly interesting stats, but we have to rise above it."
Looking back at history, only the 1994 and 2005 Blues squads have managed to triumph in a decider in Brisbane.
With the Maroons eyeing a third consecutive series win, the Blues are determined to rewrite the narrative and create their own legacy in enemy territory.
